e-Learning courses should be completed as soon as possible to ensure that learners are able to access and complete them. Learners who are due to attend classroom-based training or an exam should complete their e-learning course(s) prior to attending.
There should not be an extended period of time between completing an e-learning course and attending classroom-based training or sitting the exam. This is primarily to ensure that the learner can more easily recall the information, and because some qualifications have deadline for how long after the completion of the e-learning course the learner would be eligible for attending classroom-based training or sitting the exam. The provider should advise learners what this period is. If the learner doesn't complete the e-learning in time they may need to complete the e-learning again from the start and may result in an additional charge from the provider. If classroom-based training or an exam has to be rearranged, there may be a charge for this too.
Learners are usually given one year’s access to the course before it expires. Courses obtained from Highfield directly usually expire one year from when they are first accessed. Learners who obtain their Highfield e-learning from other providers may be issued with a course which expires one year from when it is assigned to them. Other expiry options are available, and providers should discuss their requirements with Highfield e-learning prior to issuing courses to learners or distributing licenses to their clients.
Once a course expires the e-learning will no longer be accessible, however if a course is completed prior to expiring the certificate will remain accessible as normal from within the learner dashboard under All Courses > Previous Courses.
Administrators can view expired courses (and certificates for courses which have expired (but have been completed) by using the relevant filter options within learner reports.
If a course isn't completed prior to expiring the user should contact the issuing provider to ask for an extension. The provider may charge for this. In addition the course may need to be started again, as progress will not be transferable.
Please note that Highfield e-learning courses do not have to be completed in one session. Learners can exit the course and then re-access them at a later time, provided this is within the access period.
